Course Description

This qualification highlights the important role of community services workers in delivering person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities. These workers operate autonomously within their scope of practice and contribute to positive transformations in people’s lives. They may supervise others, engage in case management, and coordinate programs. Practical work of at least 200 hours is required, following relevant legislation, standards, and codes of practice. No occupational licensing or certification prerequisites apply.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen; or
  • a permanent visa holder or holder of visa subclass 309, 444, 449, 785, 786, 790, or 820; or
  • a dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457 or 482**; or
  • a bridging visa holder who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 866; or
  • a bridging visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051) who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 785 or 790.
  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
  • Have a current COVID-19 vaccination (unless exempt); and
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). We recommend that you create your USI before you book your course.
  • Completion of Australian Year 12 or other equivalent Australian qualification/s for entry to a Diploma level

Additionally, you need to attend and achieve a satisfactory result on the language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) test. The LLN test will be conducted either face to face in a hard copy or via eLearning: Moodle. The LLN test will determine whether the student needs additional support to achieve the following ACSF Levels-

Learning – Level 3,
Reading – Level 3,
Writing – Level 3,
Oral Communication – Level 3
Numeracy – Level 3

Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:

  • Current Police Clearance (no older than six months) or NDIS Worker Screening Check; and
  • A current flu vaccination (unless exempt).

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer (CT)

A recognition of prior learning is available to students who possess prior knowledge, skills, and experience and/or have a Credit Transfer with Units of Competency from formal training or study in a relevant field. Your study course may be shortened as a result of recognition.

Future Studies

Students who successfully complete CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services may proceed to CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management or enrol in another relevant course in the same pathway.

Assessment
