Course Description

A nationally accredited unit, Drug and Alcohol Testing training course teaches you the skills and knowledge to collect specimens via urine and/or oral and breath testing and preparing your client and equipment based on specific procedures that apply for drugs and abuse testing. This course is designed for people who intend to collect and test alcohol, oral saliva and urine testing.

All procedures follow Australian and New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 4760:2019 (oral fluid) and AS/NZS 4308:2008 (urine). The program also includes breath alcohol testing procedures utilising handheld breathalyser units compliant with AS3547:2019.

Assessment:

  • Collect urine, oral fluid or breath specimens for drug of abuse testing.
  • Selected, prepared and used compliant equipment and collection kits
  • Followed established technical, infection control and safety procedures plus those required by the relevant standard, during collections from at least 3 different clients.

Preparation:

Students are expected to prepare before coming to class. Reading and assessment resources are available upon enrolment.
