This course is meant for individuals who need to undergo the accredited manual handling course.
Through this course, you will learn how to properly identify, prepare for, and execute manual tasks in a safe manner at Auscare’s simulated training facility. By the end of this unit, you will be able to contribute to the overall safety of your work environment through your understanding of proper manual handling techniques such as:
- Following legally compliant workplace procedures to prepare for and complete at least 3 different manual tasks relevant to the work role.
- Contributing to a consultation process about improving manual handling safety.
- Using Hoists – (Standing, Bed and Chair).
- Risk Assessment.
- Identify manual tasks involving risk.
Before class begins, please arrive 10 minutes early to complete the necessary registration procedures.
Once you’re inside, you’ll have access to a range of full-working equipment, including hoists, hospital beds, and slide sheets, all of which you’ll be able to practice on with the guidance of our highly qualified trainers and assessors.

Manual Handling course for Carers, Nurses & Aged Care Workers
Are you a carer or nurse looking to improve your skills in safely conducting manual tasks? Look no further! Our Nationally Recognised Training Unit of Competency covers everything you need to know to recognise potentially hazardous manual tasks and complete them safely. This unit is applicable to all workers who may be involved in manual handling tasks and is specifically contextualised to the Aged Care/Allied Health setting.
During our manual handling course, you’ll receive comprehensive theory on legislation and safe work practices related to the mobilisation of clients and objects in your role. You’ll also have the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice with hands-on demonstrations, guided by our experienced trainers and assessors. Our course has a strong emphasis on practical skills, including the safe use of slide sheets and hoists for transferring patients. By the end of this course, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to conduct manual tasks safely and effectively.
You will cover the following elements:
- Identifying manual tasks involving risk
- Preparing for manual tasks
- Completing manual tasks
- Contributing to safe work practices
Theory Includes:
- Introduction to manual handling
- How to control risks
- Legislation
- Preventing Injuries
- Duty of care
- Basic anatomy and physiology of the spine
- Risk factors
- Correct postures
Practical Includes:
- Pre-start exercises
- Use of slide sheets
- Log rolls
- Use of a full hoist and standing hoist in a variety of situations
On successful completion of the unit, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment that states competency in HLTWH005 Conduct Manual Tasks Safely.
Note that this Unit is a Nationally Recognised training.
